To enrich the extracurricular life of research group members, alleviate scientific research pressure, and strengthen team cohesion, Prof. Wenxiong Zhang’s and Prof. Zhenfeng Xi’s research groups jointly organized a spring outing from April 26 to 27, 2025. The event took place in Gubei Water Town, a scenic destination with profound cultural heritage, aiming to provide a relaxing break for faculty and students while fostering communication in a natural and culturally immersive setting.
On the morning of April 26, members of both groups departed from the Department of Chemistry and arrived at Gubei Water Town. In the warmth of spring, the group undertook a collective hike to Simatai Great Wall. As one of the best-preserved sections of the Ming Dynasty Great Wall, Simatai is renowned for its steep and rugged terrain. Throughout the climb, participants supported one another and ultimately reached the summit, where they were rewarded with a panoramic view of the picturesque town nestled among mountains. The following morning, the group explored Gubei Water Town’s cultural experience programs, visiting traditional sites such as a dyeing workshop, a historical security agency (biaoju), and an old-style academy. These stops offered insight into traditional handicrafts and folk customs. The town’s Jiangnan-style charm was especially captivating under the spring sunshine. As they strolled through the alleys framed by grey brick walls and black-tiled roofs, students and faculty alike paused to admire the harmony between architecture and nature, taking photos to preserve the memories.
On the afternoon of April 27, the group returned to campus. To conclude the trip, Prof. Wenxiong Zhang delivered a brief speech expressing his satisfaction with the success of the outing and encouraged all members to return to their research work with renewed energy and enthusiasm. Though brief, this spring outing left participants with joyful memories, strengthened interpersonal connections, and added a warm and memorable chapter to the shared journey of both research groups.
